A Ski Trip Packing List: Mountain Essentials

I will warn you that my suggestions for what to wear on the mountain are not super glamorous. I am very realistic about what you need to stay warm and comfortable while skiing or snowboardng. So my choices may not be super chic. But, I promise this list will provide you the items that make your day on the mountain a great success.

The Outer Layers

A proper shell along with a down jacket are crucial to keeping warm and dry. You can either purchase them separately, or buy a combo coat like this Spyder coat that I recently purchased and I really love.

Arcteryx Ravenna Coat
This Arcteryx Coat is my favorite. It is an incredibly warm shell that on days above 35 degrees I only have to wear this and a good base layer underneath while skiing.
Helly Hansen Verglas Icefall Coat
I purchased this Helly Hansen coat a few years ago and it packs up incredibly well. The warmth factor is fantastic.
Patagonia Womens Ski Pants
These Patagonia pants are insulated which is absolutely necessary.

Let’s Talk Base Layers

I am very biased about my base layers. I have been wearing IceBreaker for about ten years now and I cannot imagine anything else.

Icebreaker Merino 260
I wear this medium weight Icebreaker base layer for days 25 degrees+.
Icebreaker 150 merino wool legging
These Icebreaker leggings are soft and really comfortable under your snow pants.
Smartwool Ski Socks
These are the exact Smartwool socks I wear and I really love them.
Outdoor Research Heated Ski Gloves
This Outdoor Research gloves have a heating mechanism in them which is the BEST.
